8U gear: start simple and easy to use

At 8U, comfort and control matter more than premium materials. Confirm what the team supplies, then choose the smallest set of equipment your player can use confidently.

01 / BEFORE YOU BUY

Ask the league before shopping

Get the current bat, helmet, footwear, and uniform requirements in writing. Ask the coach which equipment is shared. Rules vary by organization, so an age label or product description does not prove that an item is allowed.

02 / BEFORE YOU BUY

Choose a glove they can close

Use a youth sizing chart only to identify a few gloves to try. Check that the glove stays secure and that the player can open and close it without fighting the leather. Confirm the throwing-hand selection before checkout.

03 / BEFORE YOU BUY

Keep the bat manageable

After confirming the required certification, have the player try an appropriate length and weight with a coach. A lighter listed weight is not automatically better, and a higher price does not guarantee better results.

04 / BEFORE YOU BUY

Buy the personal essentials first

Prioritize a usable glove, required footwear and uniform pieces, water, and any personal protective equipment required by the league. A labeled bag helps young players keep track of their gear.

05 / BEFORE YOU BUY

Wait on specialty upgrades

Use team bats, helmets, or catcher’s equipment when suitable and permitted. Let a few practices reveal what is actually missing before buying training aids, position-specific gloves, or a second bat.
