9U baseball gear checklist: what players need
For 9U, start with the team’s equipment list and the current league rules. Then check fit and condition on the gear your player already owns before shopping for anything new.

01 / BEFORE YOU BUY
Ask what the team provides
Before filling a cart, ask the coach which bat, helmet, catcher’s gear, and practice equipment the team supplies. Get the written rules for both league games and tournaments; 9U does not identify one universal bat standard or equipment list.
02 / BEFORE YOU BUY
Check the bat before comparing brands
Confirm the required certification and any barrel or length rules with every organization on the schedule. Then compare only bats in a length and weight your player can control. A familiar model name does not guarantee the same stamp or size.
03 / BEFORE YOU BUY
Fit a glove to the player and role
Use position and a size chart to narrow options, then have your player try the glove. Check throwing hand, wrist security, and whether they can close it comfortably. If positions rotate, ask the coach before buying a specialized mitt.
04 / BEFORE YOU BUY
Check helmet, footwear, and protection
Follow the manufacturer’s fitting instructions for helmets and protective gear, and confirm your league’s requirements. Try cleats with the player’s baseball socks; do not assume last season’s size still fits.
05 / BEFORE YOU BUY
Treat catcher’s gear as separate fit checks
If your player catches, ask whether the team has a suitable set. Check the helmet, chest protector, and leg guards individually against the maker’s size chart and fit instructions. A youth label alone does not show that every piece fits.
06 / BEFORE YOU BUY
Use a short list and keep the budget flexible
Start with required items that fit: glove, approved bat if needed, helmet, footwear, and any required protection. Reuse safe equipment that still fits, and wait for a real practice need before buying optional training aids or an upgrade.
