GLOVE BUYING GUIDE

A glove they can actually close

Glove length helps narrow the shelf. The useful choice is the glove your player can keep secure and operate comfortably.

01 / BEFORE YOU BUY

Use a chart to start the comparison

Rawlings lists 10¼–11½ inches for youth infield gloves and 11½–12¼ inches for youth outfield gloves in its ages 7–12 chart. These ranges help identify options to try; position, hand size, and the exact model still matter.

02 / BEFORE YOU BUY

Check the throwing-hand selection

Right-hand throw means the player throws with the right hand and wears the glove on the left. Left-hand throw means the reverse. Confirm the selected option on the product page and in the cart, especially when colors have different availability.

03 / BEFORE YOU BUY

Try closure and wrist security

With the player wearing the glove, check whether they can open and close it comfortably and whether it stays secure without squeezing their wrist. Ask the coach to help assess it. Do not assume a larger glove will be easier to use or worth buying for future growth.

04 / BEFORE YOU BUY

Separate break-in from a fit problem

New gloves can feel stiff, but break-in does not change the basic dimensions. Follow the maker’s care instructions, and check the return policy before treating the leather. If the player cannot manage the glove, compare another fit before committing.

05 / BEFORE YOU BUY

Catching is a separate purchase

A fielding glove and a catcher’s mitt serve different roles. If your player is moving behind the plate, ask the coach about a suitable mitt and review the catcher’s equipment guide before buying a full setup.
