YOUTH GLOVE GUIDE

Colorful youth baseball gloves: style after fit

A glove a child is excited to carry can be a great choice—when it also fits. Use color to narrow the final options only after the player can control the glove and the pattern matches their position.

01 / BEFORE YOU BUY

Start with the player’s hand and position

Choose a small size range based on the player’s current hand, age, and primary position. Then have the player try the glove. They should be able to open and close it, keep it secure at the wrist, and control the pocket without fighting the leather.

02 / BEFORE YOU BUY

Confirm right-hand throw or left-hand throw

Right-hand throw means the glove is worn on the left hand. Left-hand throw means it is worn on the right. Bright colorways may be stocked in only one orientation, so verify the selected hand on the product page and again in the cart.

03 / BEFORE YOU BUY

Compare youth fit—not just glove length

Two gloves with the same listed length can feel very different because wrist openings, finger stalls, materials, and stiffness vary. Rawlings’ Players Series, for example, describes a soft, pliable youth shell, while higher-tier gloves may require more break-in. The best-looking glove is still a poor buy if the player cannot use it confidently.

Know when custom color costs more than it helps

Custom builders and premium limited colorways can offer many combinations, but they may cost substantially more and have stricter return terms. Wilson offers custom color combinations on several premium glove lines. Before customizing, make sure the model and pattern already work for the player and confirm whether personalized gloves can be returned.

05 / BEFORE YOU BUY

Let the player choose from the finalists

After an adult and coach narrow the choices to gloves that fit the player, position, budget, and throwing hand, let the player pick the color they like best. That keeps style part of the fun without allowing it to override the details that affect actual play.
