A catcher’s set is three separate fit decisions. Start with your player’s measurements, then compare the exact size of every component. An age label is a starting point, not proof that the set fits.

Measure before choosing a set
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for the exact model. Rawlings describes chest-protector length from the bottom of the throat to just past the navel. Its youth Velo 2.0 chest is 13½ inches; the youth Renegade 2.0 chest is 14 inches. The same youth label does not mean the same dimensions.

Try the full setup together
Check the helmet’s size range and adjustment instructions. Have your player try the chest protector and leg guards in their catching stance, with an adult checking the manufacturer’s fit guidance. Ask the coach to review the setup before play. Do not buy oversized protective equipment simply to leave room for growth.

Ask your league which helmet and chest-protector certifications it requires, and verify the labels on the exact equipment. Review the included pieces: these sets list a helmet, chest protector, and leg guards. Budget separately for a catcher’s mitt and any additional protection your league requires. Certification does not replace correct fit or eliminate injury risk.
